Zenana Enclosure – Hampi

Continuing to explore the Royal Enclosure of the Hampi ruins, I next visited the Zenana area. This enclosed area surrounded by tall walls and three guard-towers was believed to be reserved solely for the royal women. The remains of the Queen’s palace, now reduced to just a basement, sits in this compound. The prominent remaining structure is called the Lotus Mahal, a two-storied arched pavilion thought to have been the home of the kings harem.
