Kujo Residence

The Kujo Residence is in the southwest portion of the Imperial Palace Grounds in Kyoto. The Kujo was one of five families of imperial advisors when the capital was still in Kyoto. At the time, all government staff lived within the walls of the palace and the more prominent families were awarded this type of live. The large Kujo house is gone, but what remains is the Shusuitei Tea Ceremony pavilion and the Itsukushima Shrine on the island in the lake.
