Gion Matsuri, Kyoto

I was lucky to have my visit to Kyoto coincide with the Gion Matsuri festival. Lonely Planet describes it as the “mother of all Japanese festivals”. I was on the tail end of the month-long festivities and only was able to catch the last few floats of the last parade at the end of the month -whew!!! Still, a visual smorgasbord. Nothing like a good parade!
