One of the real joys of living in Taipei is its proximity to the mountainous Yangmingshan National Park. The park is literally on the edge of the city and serviced by bus on a regular basis. Rising above Taipei to the north, there are tons of hiking trails and natural hot springs. Everything is tastefully developed and easy to get to by park shuttle buses scurrying around the perimeter every 20 minutes or so. Right now the area is covered with butterflies. Super busy on the weekends, Yangmingshan is relatively empty on weekdays and I have been taking advantage of getting up there as much as possible. It takes me about one hour from my apartment to the top of the mountain via a combination of MRT, city bus and park shuttle.
Great views back over Metro Taipei.
A nice variety of hiking areas to explore.
The park is well-sign posted throughout.
