As I was waiting in a taxi at a ferry stop on the way from the airport to my homestay in Fort Kochi, a crazy little rickshaw pulled up with two equally crazy Aussie guys at the helm. I engaged them in a little small-talk about the unusual sight of seeing Caucasians piloting a rickshaw. It turns out that there were 83 of these vehicles in total participating in a charity event. The event itself had taken the group from far northern India all the way to the southern state of Kerala in just 12 days – a small miracle given the fragility of these machines over a long-haul journey. Fort Kochi was their terminus and two nights of wild partying awaited 166 drivers plus their support team after a frenetic and memorable journey across an entire sub-continent in a toy vehicle.
