Zhongshan Hall – Taipei

This beautiful hall is full of history. It was built in 1936 for the coronation of Japan Emperor Hirohito. At the time it was one of the most modern buildings in Taipei, blending Western classical elements with new modernist themes. This hall is where the Japanese formally surrendered Taiwan at the end of WWII. It is also where Chiang Kai-Shek delivered victory speeches to the population from the terrace above the motor entrance.

This is the hall where the formal surrender took place.

All the 2nd and 3rd floor hallways are lined with this gorgeous blond wood mosaic.
